Three national standards, including ductile iron castings, have been reviewed and approved in Yantai

The Cast Iron Sub Technical Committee of the National Foundry Standardization Technical Committee held a review meeting on November 21-22, 2018 in Yantai, Shandong Province, China, for three national standards: ductile iron castings, wedge compression strength test method for cast iron castings, and chemical analysis method for cast iron pig iron - silicon manganese phosphorus copper chromium nickel titanium vanadium tin magnesium - inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy. The review meeting was chaired by Professor Wang Zehua, Chairman of the Cast Iron Sub Technical Committee of the National Foundry Standardization Technical Committee, and 32 experts from 25 cast iron production enterprises. After two days of careful review, three national standards were finally approved.

Foundry, Ningxia Shared Group Co., Ltd., Guangdong Zhongtian Chuangzhan Ductile Iron Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Bolaite Power Machinery Co., Ltd., Tianrun crankshaft Co., Ltd., Jinhua Wanliyang Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Xiangtan Huajin Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd., Fuzhen Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Houma Dongxin Machinery Casting Co., Ltd., and Yantan Huajin Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd. Taishan Automobile Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Weifang Changsheng Pipe Industry Co., Ltd 32 experts from 23 units including Laizhou Xinzhongyao Machinery Co., Ltd., Shandong Huijin Co., Ltd., and Shandong Longji Machinery Co., Ltd. attended the standard review meeting.

"Ductile Iron Castings" is a revision project, and the technical content of this revision is completely equivalent to the use of ISO 1083:2018 Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron Classification. The revised "Ductile Iron Castings" is based on ISO 1083:2018, and the main structure and technical content of the standard are completely equivalent to ISO 1083:2018. The standard adds the grade and technical requirements of silicon solid solution strengthened ferrite ductile iron, and adds technical requirements for the internal and surface quality of castings.

The "Test Method for Wedge Compression Strength of Cast Iron Castings" and "Chemical Analysis Methods for Cast Iron and Pig Iron - Determination of Silicon Manganese Phosphate Copper Chromium Nickel Titanium Vanadium Tin Magnesium Aluminum - Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy" are two standards first developed. The standard "Wedge Compression Strength Test Method for Cast Iron Castings" specifies the terms and definitions, principles, specimens, test equipment, test procedures, test data processing, and test reports for wedge compression strength testing of gray cast iron castings and other brittle cast iron materials. This standard is applicable to the wedge compression strength test of gray cast iron materials and other brittle materials.

The standard for chemical analysis of cast iron and pig iron specifies the method of using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy to determine chromium, copper, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, phosphorus, silicon, tin, titanium, and vanadium. This standard is applicable to the determination of chromium, copper, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, phosphorus, acid soluble silicon, tin, titanium, and vanadium content in cast iron and pig iron.

The Chemical Analysis Method for Acidic Slag in Foundry Ironmaking Furnaces is a revision project. This standard is an integrated revision of 11 industry standards, including JB/T 9220.1 to JB/T 9220.11-1999. This standard specifies the general rules and regulations for the chemical analysis of acidic slag from casting iron furnaces. In the chemical analysis methods, the perchloric acid dehydration gravimetric method is used to determine silicon dioxide content, the potassium dichromate volumetric method is used to determine ferrous oxide content, the inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy method is used to determine manganese oxide, aluminum oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, phosphorus pentoxide content, and the infrared absorption method is used to determine sulfur content in acidic slag. This standard is applicable to the analysis of the chemical composition of acidic slag in cast iron furnaces.

The experts participating in the review carefully listened to a brief introduction by the standard drafting working group of the four standards on the background, purpose, significance, overall ideas of standard formulation and revision, principles of standard formulation, and the basis for determining the main content of the standards, as well as the process of standard formulation and revision. The review meeting carefully reviewed and finally confirmed the preparation instructions of the standards, the summary processing table for soliciting opinions, and the compliance of the standards with current laws and regulations. The review meeting focused on carefully reviewing the submission drafts of the three standards word by word and sentence by sentence, and put forward multiple review opinions.

The standard drafting working group has adopted all the review opinions proposed by the review meeting. There was no significant disagreement on the standards during the review, and the meeting unanimously approved the review of three national standards: "Ductile Iron Castings", "Wedge Compression Strength Test Method for Cast Iron Castings", and "Chemical Analysis Methods for Cast Iron and Pig Iron - Determination of Silicon Manganese Phosphate Copper Chromium Nickel Titanium Vanadium Tin Magnesium - Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy". The review meeting requires the standard drafting working group to carefully revise and improve the standard submission draft based on the review meeting's opinions, and to form the standard approval draft as soon as possible. It should be submitted to the Secretariat of the National Casting Standards Committee for review and then submitted for approval according to the prescribed procedures.

The review meeting has put forward many revision suggestions for the industry standard "Chemical Analysis Method for Acidic Slag in Foundry Ironmaking Furnaces". The meeting believes that this standard still needs to be carefully revised again, and relevant national standards should be referred to to continue to improve and standardize the content of the standard, and then select an appropriate time to review again.
